Roman Forum

Make Sure You Visit the Roman Forum!

As we come near the end of the trip, we will visit the place where nearly everything occurred during the Roman Empire: the Roman Forum.  In the Roman Forum, public speeches, court cases, business matters, elections, and many things having to do with daily life took place. Two of the important buildings there were the Curia Julia and the Basilica Julia which were built by Julius Caesar during his reign. When senates and representatives were eliminated in the Roman Empire, Julius Caesar realized that they were necessary and brought them back. The Curia Julia was the House of the Senate and the Basilica Julia consisted of the judicial offices. Everything took place in the Roman Forum and this is why today, it shows how Roman daily life was like. The Roman Forum began to fall when the Western Roman Empire was coming to an end and did fall when the Western side was over. This shows how dependent the Romans were to the Western side and not to the Eastern side. This was most likely a factor of the fall of Rome because the Western Roman Empire held most of the power and that was not equal. This place also connects to the fall of Rome because the elections took place in this city. The elections were a big part of the empire because it defined who was emperor, senate, and much more. Many people fought to become emperor which lead to the political corruption of the empire. The Roman Forum was a big impact on the fall of Rome and it is definitely a place where you will find great information on the daily life of the Roman Empire!
